The use of various chemicals in the fight against Varroa and its control has gained more weight until today. (Koeniger and Fuchs, 1988; Slabezki et al, 1991) Studies have been started on alternative methods instead of these harmful chemicals due to the immunity of varroa parasite against chemicals such as fluvalinate, flumethrin, amitraz and coumaphos, which have been used in recent years; due to leaving residue in honey and beeswax; and due to ineffectiveness against varroa in closed puppies’ eyes (Spreafico et al, 2000). ). In particular, the use of various organic acids and aromatic plants has been widespread (Hart and Nabors, 2000).

Perizin® (coumaphos), a systemically effective drug, is used extensively by beekeepers in many countries. In recent years, it has been found that the active substance of coumaphos passes into the hemolymph of other bees within 12 hours with food sharing and high doses cause bee death; 24% reached the digestive system of the bees, 76% did not reach the bees and remained on the honeycombs and left a residue in the wax; It has been stated that varroa, due to the coumaphos residue accumulated in the beeswax, decreases its effectiveness by developing resistance to this active substance over time (Van Buren et al., 1992).

Integrated control methods used against varroa in recent years reduce the use of synthetic pyrethroids and bring up the use of various genetic, biological, and plant-derived products. Considering the various problems faced by agricultural products in the foreign market, especially in today’s world where the understanding of organic agriculture is gaining prevalence, it is seen that the wrong practices in the beekeeping sector also have an effect at this stage.

As a result of the studies aimed at comparing the effectiveness of herbal, organic acid and biotechnical applications against varroa with chemical application, the effect levels of volatile fatty acids extracted from aromatic plants, which can be recommended to country beekeepers and can be an alternative to chemical applications, come to the fore in the fight against varroa.
